My Personal Journey
Ever since I became a financial adviser in 2016, getting my Certified Financial Planner® designation has been an important goal. The Certified Financial Planner® designation represents the highest level of education, ethics, and experience for a financial adviser. I'm happy to announce that in December, 2021, I officially earned the CFP® designation after passing a challenging final exam. Throughout the designation process, I trained in 72 areas of financial expertise and accrued thousands of hours of experience. Now that I am a CFP® professional, I am excited to share my knowledge and experience with my clients and future clients. I am also now accountable to the CFP® Board's Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct which requires CFP® professionals to uphold the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness and confidentiality. I am excited to make this commitment and continue to improve the work I do for my clients.
What is a Certified Financial Planner® professional?
For more than 30 years, the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification has been the standard of excellence for financial planners. Before anyone can call themselves a CFP® professional, they must meet rigorous education, examination, experience, and ethical requirements. It's not an easy process and takes a high level of competence and commitment.
As part of the CFP® certification process, all CFP® professionals commit to the CFP® Board to uphold the high standards outlined in the Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct. CFP® professionals also make a commitment to CFP® Board to act as a fiduciary and put their clients' interests first at all times when providing financial advice. The CFP® Board holds its professionals to a strict fiduciary standard that involves a Duty of Loyalty, a Duty of Care, and a Duty To Follow Client Instructions.
Why should I hire a CFP® professional?
The main reason to hire a CFP® professional is the confidence of knowing you have hired a qualified financial professional to help you now and into the future. Below are 3 factors that separate CFP® professionals from other financial advisers.
- Higher Education & Experience Standards - Because CFP® professionals have to have at least 3 years of professional experience and go through rigorous coursework than can take years, CFP® professionals typically have a higher level of education and experience than other financial advisers.
- Higher Ethics Standards - Due to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct and the strict fiduciary standard, CFP® professionals have a higher level of accountability and ethical standards than other financial advisers.
- Holistic Expertise - The education and exam requirements require CFP® professionals to be knowledgeable in 72 different areas of financial planning. Therefore, CFP® professionals typically have broad range of financial expertise while other financial advisers may only be focused in certain areas.
